So upon hearing oh so wonderful things about Kara no Kyoukai, one’s first reaction is to look it up, and be greeted with Shiki’s image. Disregarding everything that makes the character great, the design, as is the case with many of Takeuchi/Ufotable’s Type-Moon art, is immediately visually striking, drawing you in immediately. But what is it exactly that makes this design work so well?
Despite incessant opinions that each Jojo part is the same thing once you get past the tangible details, each Part has always delivered differences, especially in themes. Now, of my favourite anime, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is certainly the shallowest thematically, but to say that the franchise overall has nothing to say, or that some Parts don’t do a better job exploring their themes, is way too reductionist. Specifically, my favourite Part, whose anime concluded today, does a great job of exploring the idea of ‘Mundanity’, or one’s trivial, daily life, and how the most Bizarre of things can arise from the simplest, smallest details. The series does a fantastic job of contrasting its inherent Jojo bizarreness with this idea of a normal, daily life. This is most embodied in its protagonist, antagonist, and setting. Read More

It seems the reception to Rogue One has been overwhelmingly positive, especially by the hardcore Star Wars fans. The amazing Vader moments, the fleshed-out characters, the deep, immersive tone, the tasteful use of nostalgia, and the awe-inspiring action scenes.
